Leaving the Hospital

Two things I always forget with my kids...

1. Just how small they really are.

2. How difficult it is to dress a newborn!

Oliver passed the car seat test on the first try, so we got the okay to go home! Wahoo. I just wanted to sleep in my own bed.

Renato did a lot of running around that day because we didn't have a car seat, a bassinet, diaper, or wipes. When he got to the hospital to pick us up he was driving an Escalade and it was packed full of stuff! Such a great daddy for pulling it all together at the last minute!

We gathered our other two boys and headed home.

Within 12 hours of being home Oliver had managed to dirty 6 different pairs of clothes, and about that many blankets!

One of my favorite things about this baby, is Renato get up with him! He hasn't been able to feed him, but he holds him and calms him down so I can get a little more sleep. Daddy has been a great help with the final addition!

The first night Oliver was up every two hours, the second about every three, and now he is getting better with almost every four hours. He isn't too fussy, and loves to look around at night. The lights are low and that seems to be his favorite to look at.

Oliver is a fantastic eater. He came out of my belly ready to eat and he is a pro!

Oliver was also born with a few minor things that will most likely need surgery.

1. His left ear is closed off. Meaning there is skin covering he ear canal. Worst case scenario, he has no ear canal, but his right ear has perfect hearing.

2. On both of his ears he has skin tags, which kind of remind me of Shrek's ears! Those will most likely be removed at the same time the ear canal is opened. We have to see what the ENT says.

3. There were two toes on his right foot that looked like they were about to fall off. They were purple and just didn't look healthy. Turns out they were just bruised and are looking perfect now.

4. His left testicle is not where it should be, which turns out to be a bit of a blessing because his circumcision will have to be done under anesthesia by a urologist. So both of those things can be done together.

5. He was in the low moderate area of jaundice. We had to go to the hospital to get blood drawn for a couple days to watch it. Yesterday though he stabalized and he doesn't have to be treated.

This little guy had to go through a lot to get here and he is so perfect and such a blessing in our family. The man upstairs sure has a plan for Oliver, I'm just happy that he wanted him in our family!
